    As a parent, you want the best for your child, in every area. With over twenty-five years of experience as a music educator and performer, David Kellen is the professional you are looking for.

    Since 1991 David Kellen and Studio K Music have been providing opportunities for people of all ages to build confidence through the piano. He has motivated, educated, and a mentored thousands of people through music. He established Studio K from just a handful of students. Today, it is the largest and most successful piano education school in the Western Suburbs, with an enrollment of 150 students ranging in ages four to 85! Many of the local school choirs and jazz bands have piano players that learn from David Kellen.

    The curriculum at Studio K is both comprehensive and diverse. Note reading, rhythm, technique, improvisation and theory are all a solid part of learning at the studio. All styles of music are taught as well, Classical, Jazz, Pop, Christian, Ragtime, Rock, etc... Mr. Kellen has an incredible gift of being able to play and write out popular tunes the students love to play. Arrangements that are specifically geared for their level.     THE LESSONS:

    •THIS IS NOT A GROUP LESSON!!!

    Each one hour, semi-private lesson provides students with the opportunity to practice what they learn, giving them a higher retention level. A half hour private lesson, the student plays pieces, the teacher writes in the notebook, and the time is up!

    Mr. Kellen and an assistant provide the students with plenty of one-on-one time to ensure each student receives the instruction and attention needed. The hour allows students to learn more material and drill on the fundamentals: note reading, rhythms, scales and chords.

    Each piano station is equipped with a laptop computer for recording, writing, and drills Once a child has enough recordings compiled, they receive a CD of their performances.

    All of the music the students work on is available for listening and playing along with on this website. Video help files are also available for individual pieces.

    Mr. Kellen teaches IMPROVISATION, somethng the most other teachers wont' even touch. Here, music theory is put into practice by teaching the students how to create his/her own music and improvise on pieces they play.

    The class experience gives students the chance to play with others through duet and ensemble pieces, something most private students never have the opportunity to do.
